Photochromics, tints and polarized lenses
Light-adaptive lenses, fashion tints and polarized options that keep patients comfortable from indoor screens to bright sun.
Three ways to manage light
Light management is no longer a choice between sunglasses and clear lenses. Photochromics, tints and polarized lenses keep patients comfortable across lighting conditions.
- Photochromic lenses
- Darken automatically in UV and bright light, then fade back to clear indoors.
- Fashion and specialty tints
- Fixed tints in gradients, solid colors and specialty shades, for appearance or for specific activities.
- Polarized lenses
- Cut reflected glare from water and roads for visual comfort and safety.
How modern photochromics work
Photochromic molecules react to UV and visible light, darkening within seconds and fading back to clear in minutes. Newer formulas also activate in indirect light, and some, such as Transitions XTRActive, behind a car windshield.
- Activation
- Darkens quickly in UV and bright light
- Fade-back
- Returns to clear indoors
- UV protection
- Blocks UVA and UVB in both the clear and dark states
- Lens types
- Progressive, single vision, bifocal and computer lenses
